The CoolLED votes are now in for the most popular three images of this year’s Image in an Image competition, where we judge what you can see in the image. And now it’s your turn to help choose the winner!
The lucky winner will receive one of our most popular LED Microscope Illumination Systems – a pE-300white for simple yet controllable fluorescence microscopy. The pE-300white provides a broad spectrum of powerful LED illumination, covering the excitation bands of common fluorophores from DAPI to Cy5.
The top three images as voted for by CoolLED colleagues are as follows (in no particular order):
Flame by Claire Dessalles: The image shows C2C12 cells growing on an alginate microcapsule, marked with phalloidin 488, imaged with a 20x objective on a Nikon Eclipse TI Confocal microscope. Vote now!
37th View of Mount Fuji by Kseniia Bondarenko: This CBA mouse (P19) sample shows the vesicular glutamate transporter 1 in green, with nuclei in white (Hoechst 33342). The cerebellum is on the bottom, and onto are the ependymal cells in the choroid plexus in the 4th ventricle responsible for the production of cerebrospinal fluid. A biological reference to the famous series of woodblock prints depicting Mt Fuji by artist Hokusai. Vote now!
Autumn Leaves by Shiraz S. Kaderuppan: Sodium benzoate crystals imaged using polarized light microscopy with compensator, on a Leica DM4000B/M microscope with 10x objective. Vote now!
Please can we ask that you only vote once (but feel free to share the poll with colleagues, friends and family!). We look forward to announcing the winner on Friday 19th, which coincides with World Photography Day to celebrate the meeting of art and science.
Thank you again to everyone who took part, we’re always impressed by the imagination and creativity of microscopists out there! If you want the chance to win a microscope illumination system, keep an eye out for future competitions by signing up to our newsletter.
