Meet Geraint Wilde
Our LED Illumination Systems are used across a wide range of life science, microscopy and OEM applications, so it helps to have people on the team who understand both the science and the systems behind them.
Geraint brings exactly that…
As CoolLED’s Product Manager and Key Account Manager for the US, Geraint supports customers and partners across the Americas while helping guide the development and positioning of CoolLED products. His background spans neuroscience, microscopy, confocal imaging, camera technology, product management and commercial life science applications.

From neuroscience to microscopy
Geraint completed his Ph.D. in Neuroscience at the University of Southampton in 1997, where his research focused on damage and repair mechanisms in stroke.
It was during this time that microscopes first became part of his day-to-day work. And, as these things often happen in science, “using microscopes” gradually became less of a task and more of a long-term professional theme.
He continued in academic research with a postdoctoral position at the University of Warwick, again working with microscopy as part of his research. His growing interest in imaging then led him to a cutting-edge microscopy-focused laboratory at the University of Liverpool, where he developed his experience further across advanced microscopy techniques and applications.
At this point, microscopy had clearly stopped being just a useful tool and had become something of a career direction. There are worse things to accidentally build a professional life around.
A commercial career in microscopy
Geraint later moved from academia into a commercial career in microscopy, combining his scientific background with customer-facing technical and product roles.
One of his key early milestones was working as a Sales Application Specialist with Leica. This gave him broad exposure to life science microscopy, a wide range of microscope technologies and the practical challenges faced by researchers across different applications.
In 2009, he joined Andor Technology as a Confocal Sales Specialist. Over the following 15 years, Geraint moved into product management roles, eventually becoming Senior Product Manager for Microscopy and Life Science Cameras.
During his time at Andor, he helped introduce two award-winning confocal solutions to the market: Dragonfly and the BC43 benchtop confocal microscope. These systems supported researchers working across advanced fluorescence imaging, confocal microscopy and life science applications, and gave Geraint extensive experience in bringing complex imaging technologies from concept to customer.

Supporting CoolLED customers across the Americas
Now part of the CoolLED team, Geraint combines his background in neuroscience, microscopy and product management to support customers and partners across the Americas.
As Key Account Manager for the US, he works closely with customers to understand their application needs, system requirements and commercial priorities. As Product Manager, he also helps shape CoolLED’s product range, ensuring our LED illumination systems continue to support the needs of researchers, instrument developers and microscopy users.
This blend of scientific, technical and commercial experience makes Geraint especially well placed to support customers working in fluorescence microscopy, live cell imaging, confocal imaging, digital pathology, spatial biology, optogenetics and other demanding life science applications where precise, stable and controllable LED illumination is essential.
Away from the microscope
Outside of work, Geraint enjoys Welsh folk dancing, gardening, hiking, baking bread and settling down with a good book.
This is a reassuringly balanced list of hobbies, covering movement, fresh air, patience, flour, and sitting very still. A full-spectrum lifestyle, you might say, although we promise not to make that phrase official.
The bread baking is particularly fitting. Like microscopy, it rewards precision, timing and controlled conditions, while still occasionally producing unexpected results that require a calm response and perhaps a cup of tea.
LED Illumination for life science microscopy
Across applications such as fluorescence imaging, live cell imaging, confocal microscopy, optogenetics, digital pathology, spatial biology, FISH, multiplex imaging and high-content screening, LED Illumination plays a critical role in image quality, reproducibility and sample protection.
Our systems offer precise wavelength selection, fast switching, stable output and flexible control options, supporting both everyday microscopy and more advanced imaging workflows. From broad-spectrum LED alternatives to mercury and metal halide lamps, through to multi-channel systems for complex fluorescence applications, our product range is designed to help users get the right light to the sample, in the right way, at the right time.
With Geraint supporting customers across the Americas and contributing to CoolLED’s product direction, we are pleased to have his experience, insight and enthusiasm as part of the team.
