‘Get Inspired’ Basingstoke 2025
At CoolLED, we’re a bit like the scientists we admire – geeky about our products, enthusiastic about getting people into STEM, which is exactly why we love attending events like Get Inspired.
It’s not just a chance to talk about our LEDs (though they are, admittedly, quite cool); it’s about showing students how exciting and accessible the world of fluorescence microscopy can be, and why they should care about the science that powers everything from medical research to experiments up on the International Space Station.
Why We Love STEM Events
Supporting the next generation of scientists isn’t about filling a void in future job markets – it’s more about helping young people understand that science isn’t just about equations or trying to look smart in front of your friends. It’s about experimenting, asking questions and, occasionally, getting your hands a little messy.
By attending events like Get Inspired, we get to meet students who might one day revolutionise imaging technology, cure diseases with make new breakthroughs, or, at the very least, become the family member everyone turns to when the printer refuses to print anything except a blank page, and the ink’s definitely not empty, or when the WiFi goes down for the ninth time that day…

Fluorescence, a Spectrometer, and Some Rat Intestines (We’re Not Kidding)
This year, we took the opportunity to set up an interactive stand where students could get a really close look at the fascinating world of fluorescence microscopy. We let them examine all kinds of samples, peer through microscopes, and use a spectrometer to break down the magic of fluorescence. The most popular sample, unsurprisingly given the audience, was the rat intestines. It sparked a response that could only be described as a mix of “wow” and “euughh,” with equal enthusiasm for both.
Why It Matters
The future of science, medicine, and technology is in the hands of the curious and the brave – those willing to experiment, ask odd questions, and make connections others might miss. Events like Get Inspired give students a glimpse into a world where problems are solved with creativity, persistence, and the occasional fluorescent glow. It’s where they can realise that a career in science isn’t just possible – it’s a journey of discovery and yes, occasionally looking at things you never thought you’d look at. Like the whole ‘intestines’ thing…
At CoolLED, we’re committed to supporting STEM education, engaging with young minds, and ensuring that the next generation is just as fascinated by the science behind our LED systems as we are.
