Shining a Light on the Holidays: CoolLED’s Festive Giving and Fun
At CoolLED, we like to think we’re pretty good at bringing light into the world (usually of the LED variety).
But this December, we stepped beyond our Andover HQ and into our community, rolling up our sleeves (and donning some outrageous knitwear) to make the holiday season a little brighter for everyone.
A Day at the Foodbank
Forget light sources and spectrums – this time, the CoolLED team was focused on tins of beans and festive biscuits. A group of our colleagues volunteered a day at our local foodbank, helping to pack hampers for families in need.
It wasn’t just about putting items in boxes, though. As the pile of filled hampers grew, so did our awareness of just how many people rely on foodbanks, especially during the holidays. Every tin of beans and festive treat was a reminder that, for some, the holidays are more about making ends meet than making merry.
There was laughter and teamwork, but there was also reflection; a shared understanding that small gestures can ripple outwards, making a bigger difference than any of us might realise. A huge thank you to Liz Stark, Jasmine Randall and Lisa Henley for their fantastic efforts!
Christmas Jumper Day: A Celebration of Knits and Giggles
Back at CoolLED HQ, we swapped our usual polished professionalism (ahem) for something more… knitted. Our annual Christmas Jumper Day saw a parade of jumpers so gloriously garish they could probably be seen from space. There were reindeer, snowmen, and one jumper that was so laden with battery-powered lights it had to be plugged into a wall socket halfway through the day.
The day wasn’t just about questionable fashion choices, however. It was also in aid of Save the Children, reminding us all that sometimes, looking ridiculous can help make the world a better place.
And then there were the traditions:
- Secret Santa gifts – ranging from the genuinely thoughtful to the “Did you just buy this at a petrol station on your way in to work this morning?”
- The CoolLED Annual Awards – celebrating our quirks and triumphs with categories such as ‘The Powerpoint Picasso’ (those who spend more time making their presentations look nice than they do focusing on the actual content) and ‘The Breakroom Broadcaster’ (those who spend more time delivering daily monologues in the kitchen than they do at their desk).
The Bigger Picture
While the jumpers were fun and the hampers heartwarming, these moments served as an important reminder. Not everyone gets to enjoy the season in the same way, and it’s up to all of us to help where we can.
It’s easy to get swept up in the festive spirit and forget that for some, this time of year is tough. Whether it’s by packing a hamper, wearing a ridiculous jumper, or simply sparking a conversation about the importance of giving back, every little bit helps.
Thank You and Happy Holidays
To everyone who contributed, whether by packing hampers, wearing a jumper that jingled, or simply cheering others on, thank you for helping us spread light this holiday season.
From all of us at CoolLED, here’s wishing you a joyful, restful, and illuminating holiday season. Let’s continue to brighten the world, one act of kindness at a time.
