Helen Binns wins CoolLED’s ‘Nick Edwards Gold Award’ 2023!
In memory of our founder, each year CoolLED celebrates our team spirit and presents The Nick Edwards Gold Award (NEGA) to one deserving team member.
The award itself is unique, constructed from our LED microscope lighting components and crafted by one of our old colleagues.
This award embodies Nick’s commitment to the company. We look for someone who shares this commitment, stretches themselves, solves challenges with innovative solutions, comes up with great ideas or shows a high level of commitment.
Most importantly, the award is for someone who has proven to be an invaluable asset to the CoolLED team.
This year, we’re congratulating Helen Binns from Engineering!
She received many nominations from colleagues right across the company, complimenting her commitment and tenacity, and the way she takes ownership of tasks. Her willingness to listen to ideas and implement them with a ‘can-do’ attitude goes above and beyond and we’re all grateful for her great personality and helpful approach.
We’d also like to share a few honourable mentions:
Debbie for her high level of commitment, putting in extra hours to get the job done
Scott for throwing himself into all aspects of business support
Steve C for transitioning seamlessly into production of the pE-100 and pT-100 units after an intensive training period
Isy for always being dependable when taking on new challenges
Jacob for stretching himself in his own work, while assisting the company overall
Lisa H for always being super helpful, approachable and positive
Sandra for being a bright spark of joy while showing great dedication and tenacity
Ben for his great energy and personality and for his great talks to the group. So funny!
Dean for challenging himself by moving from maintenance to production seamlessly

The award ceremony took place at the annual staff away day where we had a chance to let our hair down, have some fun (and get slightly competitive) with team events!
CoolLED specialises in microscopy illumination and, since our team of four introduced the first commercially available LED microscope light source in 2006, we have led the way in designing and manufacturing cutting edge microscope illumination systems using the latest technology.
