Meet Duncan Stacey
At CoolLED, our industrial OEM partners work across a wide range of demanding applications, from semiconductor inspection and advanced packaging to metrology, materials analysis and specialist imaging systems.
Supporting those customers worldwide is Duncan Stacey, our Global Business Development Manager for Industrial Applications.
Duncan has decades of experience in illumination, giving him a deep understanding of how light behaves, how systems need to perform, and why the “best” illumination solution is rarely just the brightest one. In industrial imaging and inspection, precision matters. The right wavelength, control method, optical format and integration approach can make a significant difference to image quality, measurement confidence and overall system performance.

Supporting industrial OEM partners worldwide
Duncan works closely with industrial OEM partners to identify the right LED illumination solution for their imaging, inspection and analytical requirements.
This can involve anything from discussing wavelength selection and output stability to exploring how illumination can be integrated into a larger instrument or production system. For some customers, the challenge is improving contrast. For others, it is achieving repeatable measurements, replacing legacy lamp technologies, or building a compact custom illumination platform around very specific optical requirements.
In other words, Duncan spends much of his time helping people solve problems that begin with light and often end with several engineers standing around a system saying, “Ohhhhhh, that’s much better.”
His role covers a broad range of industrial applications, including semiconductor inspection, advanced packaging, metrology, machine vision, materials characterisation and other OEM systems where controlled LED illumination plays a critical role.
Away from the world of wavelengths
Outside of work, Duncan enjoys travelling, cooking and discovering new food, which is a useful combination for someone who spends a fair amount of time working with customers around the world.
He is also known to take part in the occasional Parkrun, proving that illumination specialists can, under the right conditions, move at speed without the assistance of a TTL trigger.
And then there is the classic Volvo.
Duncan keeps one alive against all the odds, a pursuit that requires patience, optimism, mechanical sympathy and probably a willingness to describe unusual noises as “character”. In many ways, it’s not entirely unlike working with complex optical systems, except with more rust and fewer scientists.
OEM LED Illumination for industrial applications
Our Amora Series is designed for OEM integration, offering flexible, customisable LED illumination across UV, visible and infrared wavelengths, with options extending into NIR and SWIR depending on the application requirements. With configurable wavelength channels, precise electronic control and multiple optical coupling options, Amora can support a wide variety of industrial systems where stable, repeatable illumination is essential.
For semiconductor inspection, advanced packaging inspection, optical metrology, machine vision, materials analysis and other industrial applications, LED illumination can provide important advantages over traditional lamp-based technologies. These include fast switching, long lifetime, controlled output, wavelength flexibility and improved integration into automated or compact OEM instruments.
Whether the requirement is for UV excitation, visible contrast enhancement, NIR inspection, SWIR imaging support, fibre-coupled illumination, direct coupling or a fully customised OEM LED light source, CoolLED can work with partners to develop an illumination approach that fits the system rather than forcing the system to fit the light source.
