CoolLED and 3DHISTECH Partner to Advance Fluorescence Imaging
A close OEM development partnership is helping bring advanced LED illumination to the next generation of digital pathology slide scanning.
A Partnership Built Around the Imaging System
As digital pathology moves towards increasingly automated, quantitative and multiplexed fluorescence imaging, the quality of the optical hardware behind every image becomes increasingly important.
3DHISTECH, a global developer of digital pathology solutions, partnered with CoolLED to explore how LED illumination could further enhance fluorescence performance within its slide scanning platforms.
Rather than simply supplying a standard light source, CoolLED worked closely with the 3DHISTECH engineering team to develop a customised solution based around the Amora 8-channel LED Illumination System.
Why the Right Wavelength Matters
Optical power alone doesn't determine fluorescence performance. What matters is how effectively that light matches the excitation characteristics of the fluorophore and how much useful illumination ultimately reaches the sample.
With eight individually controlled LED channels, the Amora platform gives system designers greater freedom to select illumination wavelengths around their application, rather than relying on headline milliwatt figures alone.
Marketing specifications around milliwatts can be misleading. What matters is how much usable, spectrally specific light reaches the sample.

OEM Development Through Collaboration
The project went beyond wavelength selection. Engineers from both companies worked together on the opto-mechanical integration, including alignment and illumination homogeneity across the field of view.
The result is CoolLED illumination technology integrated across a range of 3DHISTECH fluorescence slide scanning systems, supporting applications where image quality, acquisition speed and reliable quantitative data all matter.
It was very easy to collaborate with CoolLED. You were open to hearing our requirements and putting together a customised solution.
