Celebrating 20 Years of Gerry Whoriskey
It’s not every day that a company gets to celebrate a milestone like this, and it’s definitely not every day that we get to celebrate a person as remarkable as Gerry Whoriskey.
Now as CoolLED’s Technical Director, Gerry has been with us from the very beginning, back when fluorescent microscopy was something that mostly made people scratch their heads and say, “You want to look at what, under what?”
But of course, Gerry wasn’t the type to ask “Why?” He was more inclined to ask, “Why not?” And it’s this unrelenting curiosity, paired with an almost uncanny ability to understand the inner workings of fluorescence microscopy, that has been the driving force behind CoolLED’s success over the past two decades.
Now, we don’t want to sound too melodramatic, but let’s be honest: CoolLED would likely have been a much smaller company (if it existed at all) without Gerry’s leadership and innovation. He’s the sort of person whose ideas seem to bubble up from the depths of his mind, like some sort of scientific cauldron, and more often than not, they’re the sorts of ideas that change the game entirely. Whether it’s designing LED light sources that are as efficient as they are powerful or pioneering technologies that leave competitors scratching their heads, Gerry has always been one step ahead.
And it’s not just his technical knowledge that sets Gerry apart; it’s his passion. He’s the kind of person who can talk about fluorescence microscopy for hours on end without ever sounding bored or repetitive. (Not that anyone would mind, since his enthusiasm is absolutely contagious). He speaks in terms of innovation and the future, always looking ahead to where the industry is going next and how CoolLED can not just keep up, but lead the way.
And if you’ve ever had the pleasure of working with Gerry, you’ll know that his forward-thinking approach isn’t confined to his technical work. He’s always been a strong advocate for nurturing talent and encouraging innovation from all corners of the company. After all, it’s not just about helpiung to lead the company into the future, it’s about trying to help the whole industry into the future, and making sure they have the tools, knowledge, and drive to succeed.
So, here’s to Gerry Whoriskey – a man who helped build CoolLED from the ground up and continues to help guide us with his knowledge, passion, and unwavering commitment to excellence. We’ve learned a lot from him over the years (sometimes without even realising it), and we know we’re only scratching the surface of the incredible things he will continue to bring to the table.
