Celebrating Excellence
We’re delighted to announce the next recipient of the esteemed Nick Edwards Gold Award for 2024.
This annual award, named in honour of one of our visionary founders, Nick Edwards, recognises outstanding dedication, innovation, and a commitment to excellence within our company.
It is voted for by the CoolLED staff, so winning (or even just receiving a nomination) is a true testament to how each person is viewed and valued within the company.
This year, Scott Jenkins from our Business Support team has been given this accolade, reflecting his exceptional contributions to our ongoing success.
A Day of Reflection and Learning
The award ceremony was a centrepiece of our company away day, a much-anticipated event that brings together the CoolLED team to reflect, learn, and celebrate. This year’s away day was particularly significant as we took a deep dive into our company’s performance in the first half of the year. We reviewed our achievements, identified areas for improvement, and set our sights on ambitious goals for the future.
A key part of the day was an enriching session on sustainability and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices. Led by Prof. Jay Acharya from Aspire Consulting and Training, the session provided valuable insights into how leading companies like Amazon, McDonald’s, and Samsung integrate sustainability into their operations. We also explored various strategies to enhance our own ESG initiatives, reinforcing our commitment to responsible business practices and our role in promoting a sustainable future.
Team Bonding and Challenges
Following the morning’s insightful sessions, the afternoon was dedicated to team-building activities designed to challenge us both mentally and physically. The activities culminated in an exhilarating ‘crystal maze’ style gold and silver ticket grab, a test of strategy, teamwork, and quick thinking.
The red team emerged victorious in this spirited competition. Congratulations to Western, Lisa, Jo, Yura, Rich and Ben for their outstanding performance and teamwork!
The Nick Edwards Gold Award
To receive a nomination from your peers for the Nick Edwards Gold Award is an honour indeed, and we had no less than 16 people from CoolLED who received at least 1 nomination this year! From almost every department in CoolLED, there was at least one person whose dedication, commitment, ambition and drive was recognised by their fellow CoolLED colleagues.
Scott, Jasmine, Chris, Steven Bravo, Lisa Henley and Faye from Business Support
Alex Lewis from Business Engineering
Ben, Isy and Greg from Marketing and Business Development
Gemma, Sandra, Rich, and Maxine from Production
Flo from Sales
Brent from Engineering
Runner-Up…
It was Jasmine Randall, our Quality and Environmental Manager, who took the official runner-up spot. Her tireless, selfless dedication to ensuring the company complies to all manner of legalities, as well as overseeing all of our department audits and internal efficiency drives doesn’t often get the credit it deserves. Her role is often quiet and understated so it’s brilliant that she’s been recognised for her efforts!
And the winner is…
Scott Jenkins! His recognition with the Nick Edwards Gold Award is a testament to his fantastic contributions to CoolLED. Initially joining as a temporary member of staff in the business support team, Scott has consistently demonstrated an innovative approach to problem-solving and has always been willing to take on new responsibilities and challenges. His hard work and dedication resulted in being made a permanent member of staff – but he didn’t stop there! He has since taken on even more responsibility with a recent promotion, now becoming our Administration Supervisor.
He is not only a brilliant work colleague, but a superb chap to know and have around the office. He’s also one of our dedicated Mental Health First Aiders too, so is well equipped to lend a friendly ear if you ever need to talk.
A very well-deserved victory for Scott!
Lighting the Future of LED Microscopy
As we celebrate Scott’s achievement, we also look forward to the future with renewed energy and enthusiasm. The insights gained from our sustainability and ESG session will guide us as we strive to implement more eco-friendly and socially responsible practices. The camaraderie and competitive spirit displayed during the team games underscore the strength of our team and our collective commitment to achieving our goals.
The Nick Edwards Gold Award not only honours individual excellence but also reflects the values that underpin CoolLED’s success: being Ambitious, Committed and Supportive. Scott definitely embodies these values, and his recognition is well-deserved.
As we move forward, we’re inspired by Scott’s example and will continue pushing the boundaries of what we can achieve together. Congratulations once again to Scott, and a heartfelt thank you to every member of the CoolLED team for making our company away day a memorable experience.
