Here at CoolLED, our innovative products have revolutionised the field of fluorescence microscopy
But beyond our technological advancements, we’ve tried to become a beacon of inspiration for young minds interested in STEM disciplines by actively participating in school careers fairs, STEM events and engaging with work-experience students; sparking interest in STEM subjects, and nurturing the scientists of tomorrow.
In an era where technology evolves at breakneck speed, inspiring the next generation of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) scientists is crucial.
Engaging young minds and fostering their curiosity about these fields is not only a responsibility but also an opportunity to shape the future.
Work Experience
Recently, we welcomed James Royle from Testbourne Community School who spent a week with us learning about our company and the various roles within it.
He spent time in every deparment and designed his very own product – a phone holder called The Royle Hold!
With the help of Engineering and Production, he was able to design and then 3D print his phone holder.
Once it was made, he then spent time with the Marketing department; learning how to brand his product, write social media posts, create website posts with an SEO focus and even filmed and edited a promotional video in record time (around 30minutes from start to finish!)
He was an absolute pleasure to have around the company and we thank him for his professionalism, courteousness and willingness to get involved.

Get Inspired / Local School Events
- ‘Get Inspired’ is all about businesses inspiring young people about the diversity of jobs available on their doorstep
- It allows 11 to 16 year-olds the opportunity, through interactive activities, to gain a real understanding of the broad range of exciting career paths on offer in and around the area
- It inspires young people to aspire to job roles in your industry as young people often don’t know particular jobs or roles exist or what they involve
- Our work with local secondary schools is a proactive way for us to give back to our community and support the economic growth of the local area
The Impact of CoolLED Ltd’s Participation
The impact of our participation in school careers fairs goes beyond the event itself. We hope it has far-reaching effects on both students as well as the wider community.
Fostering Interest in STEM
One of the most immediate outcomes of our involvement is the increased interest in STEM subjects among students. The hands-on experience of interacting with cutting-edge technology and passionate professionals leaves a lasting impression on young minds. It piques their curiosity and encourages them to explore STEM disciplines as potential career paths.
Breaking Stereotypes
We feel that our presence at school careers fairs helps break stereotypes associated with STEM fields. Often, students may have preconceived notions that these subjects are difficult or inaccessible, or a soley male orientated area. However, when they see a diverse group of CoolLED Ltd professionals who are thriving in their STEM careers, it challenges these stereotypes and makes these fields more inclusive.
Strengthening Community Bonds
Beyond inspiring students, our participation strengthens community bonds. It demonstrates that local businesses care about the development of young talent in their area which fosters a sense of community pride and encourages collaboration between schools and local companies.
CoolLED specialises in LED microscope lighting and, since our team of four introduced the first commercially available LED microscope illuminator in 2006, we have led the way in designing and manufacturing cutting edge LED Illuminators for Microscopes using the latest technology.
