The CoolLED Engineering Team is charged with translating novel CoolLED technologies into the world’s finest light sources. By applying sound engineering principles to both product design as well as the development of our manufacturing apparatus the Engineering Team strives to ensure that every CoolLED product delivers the light and dependability need to illuminate your next experiment.
Western King – Engineering Manager
Western is in charge of overseeing all of the engineering activities related to the conversion of core technologies into the world’s finest LED light sources.
In his spare time, he enjoys mountain climbing, cycling, and keeping fit.
Helen Binns – Mechanical Design Engineer
Helen works in engineering and designs all of the mechanics for our CoolLED light sources.
Outside of work, she enjoys taking part in dog shows and competitions all around the world.
Tom Sykes – Mechanical Design Engineer
With his extensive background in mechanical engineering, product design and R&D, Tom brings a wealth of hands-on experience and knowledge to the team.
In his spare time, he enjoys getting out into nature on his mountain bike, listening to music, and has started taking learning the guitar a bit more seriously!
Thomas Pleavin – Physicist (Engineer) and Product Characterisation
Thomas works with product characterisation and tests all of our Illumination Systems to ensure they all perform exactly as intended.
In his spare time, he enjoys travelling and writing software codes.
Akash Singh – Electronics Engineer
Akash uses his software skills to design the robust testing equipment for our industry-leading LED Illumination Systems.
Outside of work, he enjoys going to the gym and keeping fit, and also playing PC and console games with his friends.
Ching Pang – Mechanical Design Engineer
Ching works within our Engineering department, using his knowledge and mechanical expertise to ensure our products work at their absolute peak.
Outside of work, he loves playing football and volleyball (though not necessarily at the same time), or relaxing by playing video games with his friends.
