The system is mainly used for optogenetic stimulation, and future calcium imaging experiments on Dorsal Root Ganglions in painful medical conditions. I selected this Illumination System because it's a reliable device with up-to-date characteristics. The powerful white LED enables us to easily carry on optogenetic experiments, in my case for ChR2 and ArchT, and the other 2 LEDs at 340 nm and 380 nm will be used for Fura2 calcium imaging in mixed Dorsal Root Ganglion cultures to investigate the cross-communication between neurons and macrophages or satellite glial cells by quantifying the calcium waves. Another plus is the easy installation on the microscope, the variety of filters, easy power intensity control and it can be driven by TTL or by the majority of camera software packages.
