LED microscope illuminators are often available in different configurations which allow different light output methods – either liquid light guide (LLG) or fibre optic (often known as simply ‘fibre’). Several CoolLED Illumination Systems such as the pE-300 Series are also available for direct coupling to the microscope’s fluorescence port using specialised adaptors. You can see with a single glance which CoolLED Illumination System is available in which configuration by viewing our Product Comparison Chart.
Each light output method has its key benefits and suits different applications – for example, a fibre provides a pinpoint of light which is ideal for optogenetics. In our new tutorial video, Technical Content Specialist Dr Isy Goodhand provides a brief introduction to the three different light outputs.
We sometimes hear the terms fibre and liquid light guide used interchangeably, which can cause confusion, and in this video we also want to help the microscopy community understand the correct terminology.
Remember, we have a whole library of hardware and software tutorial video resources available to help you reach the full potential of LED illumination technology. But if something is missing and you have a questions you would like to see answered with a video, please let us know!
