In the summer months, lakes and ponds can sometimes become filled with toxins from Cyanobacteria blooms – which thrive in warm still waters with high nutrient levels. The toxin levels can be so high as to cause danger to people and animals, and therefore environmental monitoring is important to identify the risks.
In this application note, Environmental Scientists Hilary Snook, explains how the CoolLED pE-300lite Illumination System was useful for the verification of pico cyanobacteria which are challenging to see, and especially difficult to identify using standard light microscopy.
CoolLED specialises in LED microscopy illumination. Since our team of four introduced the first commercially available LED microscope illuminator in 2006, we have led the way in designing and manufacturing cutting edge LED Microscope Illumination Systems for researchers and clinicians using the latest technology.
