The majority of LED / LED's are supplied with the bare LED die mounted in either a conventional through hole package style or as a surface mount / SMT device which are then moulded into a clear plastic package. This limits how closely they can be packaged together. For example, with a 3mm diameter part, it is only possible to fit nine in a 1cm squared area. However, the bare semiconductor ( Die ) is very small, ranging from 0.3mm x 0.3mm to 1.0mm x 1.0mm and this enables up to 200 LED die to be assembled into the same area and thus giving a much higher flux light output for the same area.
After an 18 month development cycle Coolled Ltd have now launched the preciseExcite™ product aimed specifically at the fluorescence microscopy market and images are now being taken not previously possible.
precisExcite™ is also able to be retro fitted to all current fluorescence microscopes with practically zero on-going costs such as replacement bulbs.
