The COOLLED BA3200 Large Area Array UV LED Curing System is a water coolled system designed for the Ink Jet printing and large surface cure markets. It generates a flood of high intensity, single peak wavelength UV light for the curing of inks, coatings and adhesives and is available in lengths from 20mm up to 200mm.
The light source is a high density array of semiconductor light emitting diodes / LED / LED's that are die and wire bonded to a custom COOLLED substrate. This method of assembly uses a unique patented technique to create a high yet linear spread intensity of UV irradiation. This instrument has been developed to address both the ink jet printing market and also large area curing applications. The LED array is built into a remote housing connected to the main instrument via an umbilical flexible housing. This housing supplies all necessary power, cooling and temperature sensing. The main instrument houses the water cooling heat exchanger and pump system, the necessary power supplies and a microprocessor board with display for control of the LED intensity and switch on/switch off times. As well as being supplied as a complete stand alone system, COOLLED Ltd can supply just the LED Active head component for customers to design into their own UV curing system. Each 10mm x 20mm substrate contains 270 off UV LED die mounted on the COOLLED substrate material up to 2700 off LED's.
APPLICATIONS This versatile instrument provides a precision method of initiating a photo-chemical reaction, not possible with bulb technology. The LED's can be switched on/off instantaneously with zero warm up required and unlike bulb technology the life of the LED's is rated at >10,000 hours of on time. Also as the light intensity of the LED's are controlled precisely the degradation is known and therefore unlike conventional systems, no light meter is required to monitor the LED output. The light source can be positioned close to the target substrate without any danger of heat damage due to IR / Infra red as this system emits light of a single wavelength with zero IR present. Another added benefit of this system is that a uniform intensity of irradiation is produced over the full area of the array which ensures an even cure across the total area. The instrument can be programmed for either a single power level or a variable cure program. Short pulses can also be produced to simulate parts / substrates moving under the LED head as would be seen on a conveyor type system.
SAFETY The safety standard which covers radiation emissions from LED's is IEC/EN60825-1(2001). As it is possible to have this array powered up continuously, the level of UV radiation output from this instrument makes it a Class 3B Product with the following warning
Users should ensure that the array is fixed within a suitable housing to prevent exposure to the light source at all times with all necessary interlocks.
