Dual Staining
Currently much live cell work is employing dual staining constructs such as CFP/YFP and GFP/RFP. The CoolLED system is particularly suited to such work partly by the inherent advantages of LED technology but also by improving cell viability and offering more flexibility and control than conventional bulb system.
A typical CoolLED configuration suited to these common live cell probes would be a system containing the four LED peaks:
440nm (CFP),
470nm (GFP),
500nm (YFP)
565nm (RFP).
Other peaks can be chosen and swapped into the main unit as necessary. For options, click here
By taking advantage of the ability to accommodate excitation filters within the optical path of the CoolLED system, the user can achieve the fastest switching speeds without requiring an excitation filter wheel - with its attendant delay and vibration. Optical channels are recombined in the collimator prior to entering the microscope's epi-fluorescent port.

With a CoolLED LED system for Dual Staining, you have....
- Independent excitation filtering
- Independent intensity control
- Fast-switching
- No moving parts
- Stability & Repeatability
- No need for an excitation filter wheel or shutters
