Electronic Design

Unlike conventional bulbs, LEDs cannot just be connected to a battery.  It is important that the current used to drive them is controlled to ensure stable operation.  There are normally three aspects to the electronic design for a product using LEDs:-

  • Generation of a suitable voltage from an available supply
  • A method of controlling the current through the LEDs
  • A method of switching and / or controlling the intensity

Electronic designs can vary from simple low power applications to more complex applications where high current switching and high efficiency are required.  Often there are other systems requirements such as active-cooling or interfacing with digital controllers.

CoolLED's engineers have a range of design tools to model, simulate test and prove designs, including integration with CAD printed circuit board packages.
